The Architecture

Much like my thinking, this House wasn’t built to code.

There are no predetermined routes. Treat yo’self. Choose your own adventure.

My observations are often memorialized through photography, poetry and prose, short written works, and the queries and explorations they provoke. My penchant for understanding repeatedly validates my most recurring ask:

Why?

WANDER | PACE | SIT IN THE WINDOW | STEAL AWAY

Come on in

But before you do...

You gotta wipe ya feet
and remove your shoes.

Leave preconceived notions at the door. Respect the house. Honor the inquiry. Bring curiosity, candor, and enough humility to consider that your first explanation may not be the only one.

AGREEMENT IS OPTIONAL | INTROSPECTION IS REQUISITE

We curate the space. Visitors bring the soul.

Field Notes

HOVER OR TAP A PHOTOGRAPH TO TURN IT OVER

A small plant emerging from hardened black lava.
TA–7K4X–L9The Lava Flower

TA–7K4X–L9

I encountered a single stem emerging from hardened molten lava in Hawaiʻi. It did not appear to be waiting for favorable conditions. It was simply growing where growth seemed improbable.

Conditions can explain difficulty without becoming the final authority on possibility.

Raindrops clinging to the vertical silver panel of a car.
TA–Q8R2–D4DEFIANCE!

TA–Q8R2–D4

Raindrops remained fixed to the vertical panel of my car despite gravity. Each held a different shape and size. All were rain.

Are they individual, collected, connected, or conforming?

TA–M3V7–E1

A droplet balanced on the curvature of a thin leaf moving with the wind. The photograph cannot capture the motion surrounding it—or the fact that the droplet did not move.

Fragility and stability are not opposites.

A child resting against her father on a crowded train.

TA–H5S9–T2

On a crowded train at the end of the workday, a daughter rested completely against her father. For that moment, she trusted the person holding her enough to surrender awareness of everything else.

Rhodie, oh rhodie
Ethereal exhibit
Shelter, splendor, peace

A rhododendron accompanied a public request for housing. A stranger answered with an almost identically framed rhododendron—and a home offering what I had described.

Pale mushrooms growing from a moss-covered tree trunk.
TA–F2N8–G6Invitation is not requisite of possibility.

TA–F2N8–G6

A cluster of mushrooms emerged from the side of a tree—life appearing where soil was nowhere in sight.

The Human
Intersection

PROPOSED INSTALLATION

The Human Intersection is a participatory installation that asks visitors to encounter lived experience before identity. Anonymous responses to shared human questions appear first; selected demographic context comes later, making the assumptions a visitor carried into the encounter part of the work. The goal is not to erase difference, but to make overlooked commonality visible.

The Architect

Najah Hull

The shortest distance between A and B may be a straight line, but where’s the fun in that?!

An ordinary observation has rarely remained ordinary for me. I may begin at A, but before I ever reach B, I’ve encountered G, K, S, D—and sometimes found my way back to A with an entirely different understanding of where I started.

That interconnectivity is how much of my work begins. Something I notice becomes a question. One connection exposes another, then another, until what appeared to be an isolated observation reveals an entire architecture of thought.
